Yuri Chuguyev
is a Spanish composer and orchestra conductor. He moved to Málaga over 30 years ago to join the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra, where he has remained ever since.
Among his works as a composer, the oratorio Ecumenicon (based on biblical texts) stands out.
It premiered at the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico in 2007. The piece received a recommendation from the Vatican and was highly praised by both critics and the public.
In 2006, he was awarded a prize at the European Art Festival (Telč, Czech Republic).
Since 2008, he has been the Vice President and Cultural Director of the project 100 Cities for Peace.
In 2009, he was awarded the Gustav Mahler Prize by the European Union of Arts.
In 2010, he received an award at the International Catholic Film and Multimedia Festival “Niepokalanów” (Poland).
In 2017, he was awarded the “Talent and Vocation” medal by the “Peacemaker” Foundation (Moscow, Russia).
Since 2018, he has been Vice President of the Order of Peace Foundation.
In 2020, he received the Global Humanitarian Award from the World Humanitarian Drive (WHD) in London (United Kingdom).
